Rutgers School of Public Health Faculty Among University Year-End Excellence Awards Recipients

Rutgers School of Public Health faculty, Pamela Ohman Strickland and Stephanie Shiau, are among the 2024-2025 University Year-End Excellence Awards Recipients.

Each year, these awards honor members of the Rutgers community selected by their colleagues for outstanding contributions to teaching, research, and public service. Awardees come from all four academic units across the university: Rutgers University–Camden (RU–C), Rutgers University–Newark (RU–N), Rutgers University–New Brunswick (RU–NB), and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (Rutgers Health).

Pamela Ohman Strickland, associate professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, has received the Warren I. Susman Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award honors the memory of the noted historian and Rutgers University professor, Warren I. Susman. This award is given annually to tenured faculty members in recognition of outstanding service in stimulating and guiding the intellectual development of students at Rutgers University.

Stephanie Shiau, assistant professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, has received the Presidential Fellowship for Teaching Excellence. The fellowship honors faculty members who have made truly outstanding contributions to teaching during their early years at Rutgers.

“We are incredibly proud of Drs. Ohman Strickland and Shiau for their commitment to educating the next generation of public health leaders and scholars,” said Perry N. Halkitis, Dean of the Rutgers School of Public Health. “Along with scholarship and community engagement, teaching is one of our school’s grounding pillars. The school is dedicated in a real manner to the employment of modern student-centered pedagogical techniques, which Drs. Ohman Strickland and Shiau exemplify, both in the classroom and with their mentees.”
