The Rutgers School of Public Health invites applications for multiple open-rank tenure/tenure-track and clinical faculty positions across our four departments: Biostatistics and Epidemiology; Environmental and Occupational Health and Justice; Health Behavior, Society, and Policy; and Urban-Global Public Health.

Our faculty are engaged in cutting-edge research, innovative teaching, and impactful community service in several disciplines within these areas, including but not limited to: aging, causal inference methods, climate change, clinical trial designs, sustainability, global and migrant health, infectious and chronic disease epidemiology, prenatal health, pharmacoepidemiology, public health nutrition, population mental health, social and commercial determinants of health, statistical learning methods, and ATOD use.
We are particularly interested in candidates whose works align with any of these disciplines or, more broadly, with any our six areas of excellence.
Successful applicants will be expected to develop and sustain an extramurally funded research program, contribute to our teaching mission, mentor MPH and doctoral students, and actively engage with the communities we serve.

Vice Dean and Tenured Professor or Tenured Associate Professor
Rutgers School of Public Health is seeking a senior level Tenured Professor or Tenured Associate Professor in any area of public health. Qualified candidates should have a PhD, DrPH, MD, or equivalent with extensive experience and community engagement in the field of public health. Additional requirements include a strong record of scholarly achievement, sustained extramural research funding as Principal Investigator, experience in teaching and mentoring a new generation of public health researchers and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, anti-racism, and LGBTQ+ rights.
The successful candidate will serve as the Vice Dean and Tenured Professor or Tenured Associate Professor at the School of Public Health.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as part of the Dean’s Leadership Team.
- Report and work directly with the Dean on all matters related to school oversight and management
- Serve as proxy to the dean as needed (including the running of meetings in the Dean’s absence).
- Create a culture of excellence among the SPH faculty members, staff, and students as per the 3 pillars of the school—-scholarship, teaching, and community engagement.
- Work with the Dean to liaise with Rutgers Health chancellor’s team and RU leadership.
- Work with the Dean and Chief of Staff to provides supervision and mentorship of department chairs.
- Work with the faculty affairs team (Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, Director for Faculty and Staff Affairs, and Chief of Staff) on all aspects of faculty affairs processes including mentoring and annual performance evaluations, appointments/reappointments, tenure and promotion processes, faculty mentoring, recruitment, onboarding, and orientation.
- Work directly with the Assistant Dean for Research to further build extramural funding portfolio and excellence in scholarship.
- Work with Associate Dean for Finance and Administration and Director of Marketing and Communications as needed.
- Serve as primary supervisor for Assistant Deans for Student Services and Alumni Affairs, Admissions and Enrollment, and Diversity Equity and Inclusion for Faculty & Talent Development.
- Lead efforts for chair and program director evaluations.
- Lead efforts to develop the strategic plan for of the school every 5 years.
- Represent the SPH on the ASPPH, APHA and other national groups as needed.
- Foster a culture with zero tolerance of harassment and discrimination.

Under the leadership of Dean Perry N. Halkitis, the Rutgers School of Public Health (R-SPH) has earned widespread acclaim as a leading hub of excellence in the realm of sexual gender minority (SGM) health. During his tenure at Rutgers, Dean Halkitis has established the world’s first Master of Public Health concentration in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) health, recruited faculty with complementary LGBTQ+ research programs, and launched the academic journal Annals of LGBTQ Public and Population Health with the aim of advancing the dissemination of research on health disparities and interventions. Rutgers School of Public Health faculty, students, and staff lead partnerships with critical LGBTQ+ researchers, activists, and community members to challenge structural racism and anti-LGBTQ+ policies in New Jersey and beyond.
Administrative Assistant
Rutgers is seeking an Administrative Assistant for the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology within the School of Public Health, located in Piscataway, NJ. Performs a wide variety of confidential administrative and support services to the Chair and Faculty within the department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. Assists in the planning and support of program activities.
Duties include:
- Performs a wide variety of typing assignments, including correspondence and reports.
- Maintains assigned faculty member’s appointment calendars, establishing priorities and scheduling appointments at own discretion.
- Works in collaboration with the Executive Assistant to the Chair as a contact between the faculty and other offices, vendors (internal and external), institutions, agencies, on a wide range of items.
- Provides coverage when the Executive Assistant to the Chair is out of the office.
- Works closely with Student Affairs to organize departmental components of Open House and Orientation events.
Program Coordinator (Doctoral Programs)
Rutgers School of Public Health is seeking a Program Coordinator (Doctoral Programs) for the Office of Student Affairs Doctoral Program for the School of Public Health located in Piscataway, NJ. The primary purpose of the Doctoral Programs Coordinator position is to provide a wide variety of administrative and support services, as well as perform essential functions, for the day-to-day activities and procedures related to the School’s doctoral programs and other programs and services provided by the Office for Academic Affairs as well as scheduling for Office for Community Engagement and Public Health Service.
Duties include:
- Oversees the PhD and DrPH application processes and, as requested, other applications, ensuring efficient distribution to faculty for evaluation. Coordinates with faculty reviewers to ensure timely completion of doctoral application evaluation and directs the preparation and dissemination of acceptance, wait-list, and rejection communications for admissions.
- Familiarizes doctoral students with the academic environment and guides students through the critical doctoral program milestones, such as the qualifying examination and dissertation phases. Provides coaching to support students’ academic and professional development. Identifies opportunities for doctoral student engagement beyond coursework to build professional and employment skills.
- Creates, updates, and maintains written communication about requirements, deadlines, events, and other information related to doctoral students and faculty, including PhD and DrPH student handbooks, Canvas pages, student forms and other student-focused information and materials. Collaborates with diverse university and school departments, offices and services to ensure accuracy and relevance of information for doctoral students. Implements strategies to enhance communication and streamline the dissemination of critical information to doctoral students, fostering a supportive and inclusive academic environment.
- Responsible for the management and maintenance of PhD and DrPH student records, both paper and electronic, for the school, including the handling of individual development plans, candidacy approval forms, and other essential documents, as well as ensuring accurate documentation of applied practice experiences and dissertation information. Implements best practices for records management to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Leads the planning and organizing of the DrPH Executive Sessions which are held in Newark and Piscataway (on campus), encompassing weekend sessions. Develops agenda and creates content specifically for the DrPH program, ensuring alignment with program goals. Ensures seamless execution by coordinating logistics, overseeing on-site support, and attending the approximately six weekend sessions per academic year on campus.
- Leads the planning and organizing of the PhD Research Seminar and Doctoral Colloquia which are held in Piscataway (on campus) during the academic year.
- Reviews degree certification packages prepared by doctoral students to ensure all appropriate and necessary information is included.
Research Associate III
Rutgers Health is seeking a Research Associate III for the Urban-Global Public Health Department within the School of Public Health, located in Newark, NJ. The Research Associate, under the supervision of the Program Director, will provide assistance for the Nurture New Jersey Evaluation project funded by the New Jersey Department of Human Services. The individual will work with professionals from multiple sectors on the indirect effects of Nurture New Jersey, crafting a model of New Jersey’s trajectory on maternal health with and without the initiative, and assessing the expansion of midwifery training as well as other components that may be added at the request of the funder.
Duties include:
- Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and
- coordination of the analytical functions with the research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the programs/projects.
- As assigned, carries out various technical and research operations relating to investigatory activities of Nurture NJ Evaluation.
- As required, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the department.
- Conducts literature reviews and other research reviews.
- Conducts quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
- Creates presentation materials.
Student Assistant
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Student Assistant for the Department of Urban-Global Public Health for the School of Public Health located in Newark NJ. The Student Assistant, under the supervision of Dr. Mobolaji Ibitoye, will assist with qualitative data analysis for a few projects focused on fertility desires and contraception use in sub-Saharan Africa and among African immigrants in the USA.
Duties include:
- Assists with coding of interview transcripts.
- Assists with data extraction.
- Assists with analysis of qualitative data.
