Research Associate II

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate II for the Department of Urban – Global Public Health within the Rutgers School of Public Health. The Gun Violence Research Center at Rutgers seeks to create safe and healthy environments for NJ residents to live, learn, work, and play by providing high-quality, multi-disciplinary research on firearm violence causality and prevention, and to translate this research into clear and actionable policies and programs.
The Research Associate II will assist with the development, implementation and analysis of gun violence related projects. The Research Associate II will work with the Executive Director and Assistant Director to collect and analyze data as well as communicating the science to the Center’s various stakeholders.
This position is 100% grant-funded and located in Piscataway, NJ. This project partnership is supported by the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Performs various research operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of the Gun Violence Research Center; may conduct independently or as assigned specialized research for a particular project.
- Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the Center.
- Pursues peer reviewed publications on gun violence research in reputable science and research journals.
- As requested, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the department.

Senior Data Analyst
Senior Data Analyst

Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Gun Violence Research Center, the Senior Data Analyst provides data management and programming support to fulfill the needs of faculty and staff conducting qualitative and quantitative gun violence research.
The Gun Violence Research Center at Rutgers seeks to create safe and healthy environments for NJ residents to live, learn, work, and play by providing high-quality, multi-disciplinary research on firearm violence causality and prevention, and to translate this research into clear and actionable policies and programs. The Center partners with relevant local, state, and national-level experts, securing access to data to conduct and support research that identifies etiologic factors for firearm violence, develops and rigorously evaluates interventions to reduce the burden of firearm violence, and translates its scientific findings into effective programs and policies to better ensure their widespread adoption.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Supports data cleaning, management, and analyses for investigators conducting epidemiological and related research.
- Generates preliminary analyses and power analyses for grant submissions, as directed by Principal Investigator (PI).
- Writes statistical code, documents steps for variable creation and analysis, and prepares tables and figures for presentations, manuscripts, and grant submissions according to the analytical plan developed by the corresponding PI.
- Assists with data design and analytic strategies for primary and secondary research projects, program evaluations, and implementation evaluations.
- Develops and maintains databases, syntax, and data dictionaries for research projects.
- Attends and contributes to study team meetings to provide updates on data-related tasks and flag issues with ongoing data collection or analysis.

Under the direction of the Center Director, the Program Administrator will be responsible for the day-to-day management activities of the Center which includes coordinating the development, organization, evaluation and control of administrative responsibilities which support the Center.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides administrative supervision of the daily operations and performance of the Center for Public Health Workforce Development.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of requests and actions, and professional, prompt, and courteous service to clients, which includes, but is not limited to, approving and processing all paperwork for all direct purchase requests, request for checks, purchase orders. etc.
- Develops, restructures, and supervises the implementation of procedures and processes.
- Provides oversight, facilitation, and supervision of purchasing, personnel, space and facilities planning; and facilitates business processes.
- Interprets, communicates, and implements policies and practices for differing needs of a diverse client population.
- Ensures accuracy of expenditures and timely payments.
- Monitors and prepares monthly status reports to ensure a balanced budget position for the unit.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Public Administration or a related discipline plus a minimum of four (4) years of progressively more responsible related professional and/or administrative experience in either the public or private sectors.
- Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
Program Support Coordinator
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Support Coordinator for the Rutgers School of Public Health, Department of Biostatistics & Epidemiology, located in Piscataway, NJ.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Program Support Coordinator is responsible for the management of a small research team, designs and conducts specialized research projects, and assists with supervision of other research technicians and graduate students.
Duties include:
- Maintains a project management system to track all past, current, and future projects and requests that come in for the Cancer Assessment and Prevention Study (CAPS) team.
- Coordinates and tracks study activities including recruitment, quantitative and qualitative data collection, and biological sample collection.
- Facilitates initial and ongoing communication and consult planning between CAPS staff and researchers.
- Assists with mentorship and supervision of students, fellows, lower-level professionals, and technicians in study procedures, instrumentation, etc. to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions.
- Supervises maintenance and replenishment of supply inventory.
- Commutes to NJ and national research sites for study activities.
- Compiles appropriate reference materials and resources to develop online resources for cancer prevention in specific populations.
- Assists CAPS staff with the review of grants and IRB applications, where appropriate, and ensures accurate and timely submission to the appropriate parties.
- Assists with preparation of quarterly & annual team metrics reports and deadline projections, along with any supporting documentation that is necessary.
- Interacts with senior and junior investigators to help determine any outstanding statistical needs from the team while preparing technical reports, journal articles, and conference presentations. If appropriate, this may also include contributing to publications directly.
Program Assistant

- Assists with the preparation of grant proposals. Gathers and organizes documents, prepares bio-sketches from resumes, produces tables and spreadsheets for inclusion, edits drafts and final version.
- Oversees implementation of administrative decisions and the maintenance of official records of program and related committee activities.
- Undertakes routine writing and editing assignments; generates correspondence for signature; maintains mailing lists.

Research Coordinator

Research Coordinator
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Coordinator for the Urban-Global Public Health department within the School of Public Health. Under the direction of the Principal Investigators, the Research Coordinator will work on multiple NIH-funded research projects focused on health and wellness among sexual and gender minorities, with a particular focus on research within communities of color.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Oversees the implementation of a daily survey study. This includes tracking daily responses and coordinating with research assistants at community-based organizations (CBOs).
- Oversees implementation of an annual survey among aging sexual minority men at participating study sites.
- Coordinates with staff at CBOs and cohort sites to meet goals for recruitment and data collection.
- Conducts regular reviews of the data to ensure data quality.
- Programs and updates online Qualtrics survey system as needed to ensure that all surveys are administered properly.
- Aids in the implementation of a daily text message and e-mail reminder system.
- Coordinates and assists with focus groups.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Three (3) or more years of experience, with Bachelor’s Degree in similar activities in scientific research or Two (2) or more years of experience, with Master’s Degree in similar activities in scientific research

Biostatistician
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Biostatistician for the Biostatistics and Epidemiology department within the School of Public Health. Under direction of the Administrative Manager, the Biostatistician will provide statistical and study/research design support to investigators throughout Rutgers University, in coordination with the RUBIES Manager and Faculty Director. The Biostatistician will also assist the RUBIES Manager in the tracking and billing of project requests.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Critically evaluates hypotheses and operational definitions of variables, as well as proposes tentative statistical analysis plans and sampling (power analysis) for research projects proposed by clients.
- Assists the RUBIES manager and program support coordinator in tracking requests, completion progress, and estimating hours required to complete analyses for clients.
- Consults with clients on study design for both experimental and observational studies.
- Participates in grant development teams, specifically providing input into hypotheses and study design as well as developing power calculations and comprehensive statistical analysis plans.
- Contributes towards manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, including writing clear and concise statistical methodology sections and summarizing results in text, tables, and figures.
- Assists the Administrative Manager with managing and securing datasets generated in research studies or purchased from national level data consortiums.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology or related field is required, plus three (3) years of experience in academia, government, or industry in the areas of design and analysis of experiments, including basic science, clinical trials or survey research.
- Experience with basic MS Office software and at least one (1) data analysis software including SAS, SPSS, R, etc. is necessary.
NOTE: Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license for travel between university campuses. Travels regularly to all campuses for meetings, etc.
