Chair at the Rank of Professor in Health Behavior, Society and Policy
Rutgers School of Public Health is seeking a Chair of the Department of Health Behavior, Society and Policy. The department focuses on health systems and policy, health economics, social and behavioral health, aging and mental health through its research, educational programs, and community engagement activities.
Qualified candidates should (1) hold a doctoral degree or equivalent in public health, health education/health promotion, economics, psychology, sociology, or a related field; (2) have a record of accomplishment of collaborative research and peer-reviewed publications, demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding for research, and track record of effective faculty mentoring, teaching and student advising as would be expected for the rank of full professor; and (3) have effective interpersonal, and communication skills, leadership and management experience in a university setting.
Responsibilities:
The Chair will serve as a key member of the school’s leadership team and be responsible for assuring the quality and growth of programs in collaboration with departmental faculty. The Chair will demonstrate a broad understanding in key content areas of the department and possess exemplary academic achievements, strategic leadership ability, strong interpersonal, communication, and managerial skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, as well as thorough understandings of pedagogical research and processes.
The Chair will work with faculty and staff to enact department vision; recruit, and develop a set of diverse, high-performance faculty; maintain an atmosphere conducive to collaboration and transparency; and work with SPH leadership to advance the mission of the school. Moreover, the chair must demonstrate evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusion with the dedication and skills needed to assist SPH to continue to build a faculty that reflects the population of our state and our nation— diverse in terms of numerous indicators including but not limited to race, ethnicity, culture, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, social class, and nation of birth.
Key areas of interest for the Department include but are not limited to: alcohol, tobacco, and other substance use; sexual and reproductive health; LGBTQ health; mental health; structural, commercial, and social determinants of health; disparities among vulnerable or marginalized populations (domestically and globally); public health nutrition; public health communication; aging and the life course; and public health ethics.

The Gun Violence Research Center at Rutgers seeks to create safe and healthy environments for NJ residents to live, learn, work, and play by providing high-quality, multi-disciplinary research on firearm violence causality and prevention, and to translate this research into clear and actionable policies and programs. The Center partners with relevant local-, state-, and national-level experts, securing access to data to conduct and support research that identifies etiologic factors for firearm violence, develops and rigorously evaluates interventions to reduce the burden of firearm violence, and translates its scientific findings into effective programs and policies to better ensure their widespread adoption.
The Gun Violence Research Center at Rutgers University is looking for a Research Associate II to assist with the development, implementation, and analysis of gun violence related projects. The Research Associate II will work with the Executive Director and Assistant Director to collect and analyze data as well as communicating the science to the Center’s various stakeholders.
This position is 100% grant-funded. This project partnership is supported by the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education.
Duties include:
- Performs various research operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of the Gun Violence Research Center; may conduct independently or as assigned specialized research for a particular project.
- Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the Center.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a highly motivated Post Doctoral Associate for the School of Public Health (SPH). We seek an exceptional candidate to collaborate on an NIH-funded quantitative study on the impact of homelessness and housing services on maternal and infant health. For this position, the candidate will work under the direct supervision of project principal investigators (PIs) Drs. Mark McGovern and Dan Treglia; and will join a growing research team at the SPH and Center for State Health Policy with a strong publication and funding track record. The project will have a strong focus on health equity, with the goal of using advanced quantitative methods to identify how housing policy can be used to address health disparities.
Under direction of the PIs, the postdoc will lead data management and analysis of a linked administrative dataset comprised of New Jersey birth and hospital records, Medicaid claims, and housing service records. The postdoc will also implement quasi-experimental and causal inference methods in these data, assemble and summarize relevant literature, and will be encouraged to develop their own independent research program in maternal and child health and/or housing and homelessness policy. There will be opportunities for authorship on publications, presentation at national and international conferences, teaching, and collaboration on grant proposal development.
The position will have a start date between January and July 2026, depending on the needs of the project and the chosen candidate. Initial term of appointment is two years contingent on performance and is renewable contingent on continued funding and continued satisfactory performance.
Duties include:
- Manage databases, develop analytical plans, and carry out statistical analysis for manuscripts, reports, and presentations using Stata (preferred) or R.
- Lead, draft, and publish papers in peer-reviewed journals.
- Give oral presentations to disseminate research findings

The Center for Health, Identity, Behavior & Prevention Studies (CHIBPS) (www.chibps.org), situated at the School of Public Health, Rutgers University, working in conjunction with the developing Rutgers Sexual and Gender Minority Institute (RU-LGBTQ), has an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral associate. This is a 1-year appointment with a start date no sooner than March 1, 2026, and renewable for two additional years pending productivity, performance, and overall fit. The postdoctoral program enables associates to build a high-caliber scholarly portfolio in LGBTQ+ public health research through mentored scholarship and independent research opportunities.
In addition to research activities, the postdoc will coordinate activities for Annals of LGBT Public & Population Health, partake in the LGBTQ MPH concentration, and further the development of LGBTQ health at RU-LGBTQ, as well as undertake active community dissemination activities.

The Center for Health, Identity, Behavior and Prevention Studies (CHIBPS) has been a nationally recognized center dedicated to conducting rigorous scientific research that advances Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning (LGBTQ) health since 2000. In particular, the work at CHIBPS focuses on understanding drivers of health disparities, including HIV and other STIs, substance use, and mental health burdens. The CHIBPS research team includes individuals from a variety of disciplines such as psychology, public health, social work, and neuroscience.
