Gain skills to develop and evaluate suicide prevention programs

Suicide Prevention, Practice, and Policy Certificate

This 12-credit program is the first and only online certificate offered by a U.S. university that focuses exclusively on suicide prevention.

Offered in collaboration with the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP), the certificate focuses on clinical, organizational, workplace, public health, and policy approaches to suicide prevention. This unique approach to suicide prevention education will ensure that learners acquire knowledge of the economic, political, and social determinants of suicide. The certificate will prepare learners to implement, evaluate, and critique suicide prevention strategies at a time when the U.S. is experiencing rising suicide rates.

The Suicide Prevention, Practice, and Policy Certificate is intended for working professionals and students in:

  • Healthcare: Psychology, public health, social work, addictions, nursing, medicine

  • Social and criminal justice: Law, public policy, social policy, social welfare, criminology

  • Corporate settings: Human resources, corporate wellness

  • Media: Journalism, mass communications, social media

By integrating public health strategies with an understanding of clinical perspectives, graduates are prepared to support suicide prevention initiatives at the community, population, and policy levels. This multidisciplinary approach uniquely positions certificate holders to make a difference in this critical field.
