Sustainability, Health, and Healthcare Certificate

The 100% online 12-credit Sustainability, Health, and Healthcare Certificate trains scholars, workers, advocates, and community leaders to address the complex challenges of sustainability as it relates to health, healthcare, and health systems. Students will gain skills to advance sustainability initiatives that contribute to the development of policies that foster environmental stewardship and societal well-being in support of public health.

The Sustainability, Health, and Healthcare Certificate is intended for:

  • Healthcare professionals, such as clinicians, and those in state and local health departments
  • Employees of non-profit organizations and community groups
  • Those working in the private sector or in sustainability consulting related to the health sector
  • Those interested in learning about sustainability and health as it relates to the environment, society, and economy

Program Design

Students can complete the 100% online 12-credit Sustainability, Health, and Healthcare Certificate over the course of one year or can plan a schedule to complete the courses over a two-year period (maximum timeframe). All the courses are offered asynchronously, so students can study at any time and at their own pace. Online sessions with instructors are also offered live at your convenience to discuss any issues relating to the courses. Certificate courses may also be applied toward a degree at the Rutgers School of Public Health where certificate holders apply and are admitted to the degree program.

Curriculum Requirements (12 Credits)

Courses are 100% online

  • ENOH 0621 - Sustainability: Planetary and Human Health (3 cr.)
  • ENOH 0620 - Climate Change: Planetary and Human Health (3 cr.)
  • ENOH 0622 - Sustainability of Health and Healthcare (3 cr.)
  • ENOH 0625 - Sustainability Leadership (3 cr.)

Graduates of CEPH-accredited schools and programs of public health may transfer up to six (6) credits towards a certificate program if earned within the past seven years with a grade of B or better and are deemed appropriate by the respective Certificate Program Coordinator.

Applicants must have:

  • Completed an accredited undergraduate program in the U.S. or its equivalent
  • Demonstrated academic achievement in an appropriate discipline

Applicants must submit:

  • Application for Admission
  • Official transcripts of all prior work
  • Letter of intent, including statement of purpose for application to the program
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation
  • Application fee

International applicants must submit:

  • TOEFL scores and WES evaluations
