Perry N. Halkitis, dean and Hunterdon Professor of Public Health and Health Equity at the Rutgers School of Public Health, will be honored with the Hippocratic Award from the Hermes Expo Business Committee for his outstanding contributions to public health.

Halkitis’ commitment to innovative research, dedication to teaching, and advocacy for health equity all contributed to his selection for the honor.

According to Paul Kotrostsios, founder and president of the Hermes Expo, “Dr. Halkitis’ work has a profound impact on countless individuals, both locally and globally.”

Halkitis will receive the award at the 33rd Hermes Expo on June 19, 2024, in Old Bridge, New Jersey. He will be giving a keynote address focused on the health of immigrant families and children in the United States.

“As an American of Greek ancestry, I’m proud to receive this award and collaborate with my colleagues,” says Halkitis. “Like so many immigrants, my Greek parents were poorly served by medicine. As a public health researcher, educator, and advocate I’m dedicated to enhancing the health of vulnerable populations including those who migrate to the United States. This includes working with vulnerable groups to empower them to advocate for their health needs. In this regard, I’ve committed to writing a column for the Hellenic News of America on the health vulnerabilities of Greek Americans. As always, this work is in memory of my parents Nikolaos and Kalliope Halkitis.”
