Rutgers School of Public Health Launches Transforming Food Systems Student Podcast

Cover for podcast.

Rutgers School of Public Health and Harokopio University graduate students teamed up to discuss how food system transformations can support shifts toward sustainable diets. Podcast episodes cover topics like ultra-processed foods, food waste, sustainability, the future of food, and more!

The podcast episodes were recorded as part of the “Transforming Food Systems for Sustainability" course, which was offered during the Summer 2024 semester and introduced students to solutions for a sustainable food system. The two-week course hosted graduate Harokopio University students from Athens, Greece, who joined Rutgers School of Public Health students.

In each 30-minute episode, student teams analyzed a future food solution that was either ready for scale-up or in development. In the podcast episodes, students were tasked with examining the potential positive and negative impacts, and trade-offs that may need to be considered for their proposed food solution. In the development of these podcasts, students had the opportunity to practice several different workforce development skills, such as podcast recording, editing, research, and interviewing for a broad range of audiences.

Season 1 episodes include:

  • Ultra-Processed Foods Definitions & Impact on Human Health
  • The Future of Food: Plant-Based Meat Alternatives
  • Sustainable Bites: Entomophagy as a Sustainable Food Solution
  • SustainAthletics 101
  • Reducing Food Waste One Plate at a Time!
