Faculty Accepted to Sustained Training in HIV and Aging Research (STAHR) Program

Kristen Krause, instructor in the Department of Urban-Global Public Health, has been accepted into the Sustained Training in HIV and Aging Research (STAHR) program.

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) - funded program, which is run through the University of California, San Diego, is an innovative and effective research training program that is designed to expand the number of NIMH-funded investigators performing HIV, aging, and mental health research.

STAHR aims to develop promising clinical and translational scientists into independently funded researchers whose careers will make a lasting contribution to the area of HIV and aging mental health research.

“This is a great opportunity for Dr. Kristen Krause to extend her robust scholarly portfolio,” says Perry N. Halkitis, dean and Hunterdon Professor of Public Health and Health Equity at the Rutgers School of Public Health. “Dr. Krause’s acceptance into the program is a testament to the depth and excellence of HIV research at the school, as well as, the multi-level mentoring that is available, as Dr. Stephanie Shiau, another of our HIV researchers, facilitated this opportunity.”

“I’m so excited to participate in the STAHR program and learn from some of the top HIV and aging researchers in the country, including my colleague Dr. Stephanie Shiau, who also previously participated in the program,” says Krause, who is also the deputy director of the Center for Health, Identity, Behavior and Prevention Studies (CHIBPS). “I’ll have the incredible opportunity to expand my content knowledge on key aspects of HIV and aging, including cognitive impairment, polypharmacy, and psychosocial stressors and incorporate many of these areas into my future research portfolio.”

Krause will take part in STAHR’s annual workshop on July 18 and July 19, 2024, followed by the Summer Institute from July 22 to August 16, 2024.
