Biography

Tina West, M.S., Ed.D., is an instructor in the Department of Health Behavior, Society, and Policy.

Dr. West’s career has been deeply rewarding and continues to inspire her work. As a higher education professional, she brings more than 18 years of experience in student success initiatives, project management, event planning, and fundraising. Dr. West earned her doctorate in Organizational Learning, Leadership, and Innovation from Wilmington University in June 2023. Her purpose is to continue making a meaningful difference for students by bringing next-level learning experiences into the classroom—incorporating real-world application while empowering students to lend their diverse voices, actively engage, and collaborate as they learn from one another. With a democratic leadership style, she believes learning and growth happen together and is committed to fostering an inclusive learning culture that supports students on their individual journeys. As Dr. West often says, “It’s about the students’ enriched learning experience,” and she adds, “Being bold is about having a dream, believing in it, and going big. Yes, inspire!”

As a woman and lifelong learner, Dr. West’s academic curiosity and bold inquiry were shaped by her dissertation research while serving in academia. She became driven by a desire to create change for women, especially Black women, after observing the limited representation of women of color in senior leadership roles. Her dissertation is a diversity study examining the lived experiences, similarities, and differences of Black women leaders compared with women leaders of other races in the workplace.
