Biography

Howard Kipen, M.D., M.P.H., is a professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and Justice at the Rutgers School of Public Health. Dr. Kipen received his medical degree from the University of California - San Francisco and his master’s degree in public health from Columbia University.

Research Interests

Dr. Kipen is interested in understanding health effects and mechanisms by which ambient air pollution and indoor air pollution produce those health effects. He leads experimental studies that increase or decrease short term levels of pollutant exposure and assesses resultant changes in respiratory and systemic oxidative stress.
