At minimum, all Rutgers School of Public Health certificate and degree program students are required to possess a personal laptop, no older than approximately two years, and meet the following requirements. 

    •  Windows Operating System that is running 64-Bit
      • Windows 11
    • Integrated webcam with microphone
    • Integrated or USB connectable CD drive (optional)
    • Processor:
      • Modern processor such as Intel 12th Gen or AMD Zen 4 series
    •  Random Access Memory (RAM)
      • 16GB RAM or Higher
    •  Storage (traditional or solid state are acceptable)
      • Minimum: 256gb
      • Suggested: 512gb or more
    •  macOS
      • Sequoia or Newer
    • Integrated webcam with microphone
    • Integrated or USB connectable CD drive (optional)
    • Processor:
      • MacBook Air or MacbBook Pro with M2 processor or newer
    •  Random Access Memory (RAM)
      • MacBook Air or MacBook Pro with 16gb of RAM or Higher
    •  Storage (only available in solid state)
      • Minimum: 256gb
      • Suggested: 512gb or more
  • Students, faculty and staff may also use the Rutgers Software Portal to access a variety of software that is available to download for free or purchase at a reduced cost. Software applications include, but not limited to:

    • Microsoft Office - access to Microsoft Office products (Free)
    • Office 365 - used for cloud-based email for collaboration and calendaring (Free)
    • Adobe Creative Cloud - Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and other apps for video editing, photography, web design (Free)
    • Endnote - reference management software package, used to manage bibliographies and references when writing reports and articles (Free)
    • GraphPad Prism - Research & Software Analytics tool (Reduced Cost)
    • Statistical Software - SPSS, SAS, JMP, R, NVivo (Reduced Cost or Free); Stata (Can be installed on University Owned Laptop only)
  • Privacy: Strong login passwords; hardware encrypted USB keys and external drives.

    Administrator level account permissions: students should only login as the administrator when running updates to reduce risk of viruses.

    Automatic backup utility for all files.

    Bandwidth: Programs, like Zoom, need a minimum bandwidth of 10mbps.

    Note: iPads, tablets, Chromebooks, and Netbooks, as well as virtual operating systems, do NOT satisfy the graduate student computer requirement.

    Internet Connection with a bandwidth of 100mbps (the amount of connected devices in your network will affect this speed)
