Biography

Joye Anestis, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and associate professor in the Department of Health Behavior, Society, and Policy at the Rutgers School of Public Health. She serves as primary instructional faculty for the master’s in public health concentration in population mental health and serves as a clinical supervisor for the Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare (Piscataway) pre-doctoral psychology internship. Prior to joining Rutgers, Dr. Anestis was an associate professor at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she served as Director of Clinical Training and Externship Coordinator for the clinical psychology doctoral program and received a Nina Bell Suggs Endowed Professorship. Dr. Anestis received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Florida State University, where she studied under Dr. Joyce Carbonell. She completed her pre-doctoral psychology internship at the Minneapolis VAHCS. She is currently an associate editor for the Journal of Personality Assessment.

Research Interests

Dr. Anestis’s research expertise includes psychological assessment (particularly the MMPI-3), suicide risk assessment and prevention, access to and outcomes of mental health interventions, psychopathy and other externalizing traits and behaviors, and diversionary programs for justice-involved individuals with mental illness.
