Ayana K. April-Sanders, PhD
Biography
April-Sanders, Ph.D. holds a Bachelor of Science degree in public health from Rutgers University. She earned her M.P.H. in sociomedical sciences and Ph.D. in epidemiology from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Departments of Medicine and Epidemiology and Population Health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY.
Research Interests
Dr. April-Sanders’ research focuses on understanding the impact of social determinants of health, health inequities, and early life stress on cardiometabolic and CVD outcomes across the life course in minority and immigrant populations, with a particular interest in developing interventions among adolescents and young adults.
Her work also seeks to identify risk and protective modifiable factors that influence trajectories of cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disease among underrepresented minoritized groups.
