Maternal & Child Health

Fellowship Program

The Building Education, Student involvement, and Training (BEST) Maternal and Child Health Fellowship program aims to catalyze graduate training in MCH at Rutgers University with a focus on providing opportunities for students from minority and underserved populations.

The goal of the BEST Maternal and Child Health Fellowship program is to support students seeking a career in maternal and child health. Up to five fellows will be selected in 2019-2020. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Rutgers School of Public Health graduate degree program. Students from underrepresented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

The requirements for the BEST Fellowship are:

  • Completion of the fall Foundations in Maternal and Child Health course (UGPH 0560) OR Perinatal Epidemiology (EPID 0607), offered at the School of Public Health’s New Brunswick and Newark locations, with a grade of B or higher.
  • Completion of a 200-hour (two semester) practicum experience with poster presentation (Note: the practicum may or may not also serve as a Fieldwork project, depending on the requirements of the organization and the student’s concentration)
  • Attendance at meetings of Fellows and monthly reporting
  • Presentation of student’s practicum experience to the MCH student organization
  • Attendance at four or more RU-MaCH student organization meetings or events.

Fellows are awarded a $2,000 stipend. $1,000 is awarded at the beginning of the practicum, and the additional $1,000 is awarded upon completion of all requirements. Fellowship applications are due September 13, 2019. Fellowships begin in September of the Academic Year and all requirements must be completed by the following May.
