Dr. Samples completed her graduate training at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She earned her PhD in Health Services Research and Policy from the Department of Health Policy and Management, her MHS from the Department of Mental Health, and a Certificate of Bioethics and Public Health Policy. Prior to joining Rutgers, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in substance use epidemiology at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
Dr. Samples works with large health care databases as well as national surveys and population-level data to identify risk factors for behavioral health problems, analyze patterns of prevention and treatment services, and evaluate the impact of policies by assessing trends in health care delivery/utilization and outcomes. Her research broadly aims to advance knowledge of effective health services and policies to prevent adverse mental health and substance use outcomes, increase access to high quality behavioral health care, and improve equity for disadvantaged groups.
