Puzzle Piece Metaphor

The Rutgers School of Public Health uses a puzzle piece to symbolize the many facets of public health that work together to in ensure the health and well-being of those in our communities, our country, and the world. We firmly believe that public health is the sum of many parts, much like a puzzle is the sum of its pieces.

Incoming students receive a puzzle piece as they enter a community of people who are committed to their growth, helping others and keeping the public in public health. Our students are an important part of what makes our puzzle vibrant, meaningful, and inspiring. Together the puzzle we build with our students represents the high quality education, research, and service that the Rutgers School of Public Health embodies.

Through the education of our students, the research we undertake, and the service that we provide, our students, faculty, and staff are part of the larger public health puzzle. The goal of the field of public health is to promote and protect the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work, and play. However, this can only be achieved through thoughtful collaborations between communities and a network of public health professionals, who through education, research, advocacy, prevention, or just communicating with others, represent important pieces of the puzzle. Together, our individual pieces form an image of a healthier world.

We welcome you to join us in building a healthier future as our puzzle expands.

You are the puzzle piece.

You are part of our community.

You are the change we hope to see in the world.
