Maternal Child Health

Fellowship Program

The goal of the BEST Maternal and Child Health Fellowship Award is to support students seeking a career in maternal and child health.  Up to six fellows will be selected per year.  Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Rutgers School of Public Health degree program.  Students from underrepresented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

The requirements for the BEST Fellowship are:

  • Completion of the Foundations in Maternal and Child Health course (HSAP 0560),  offered at the School's New Brunswick and Newark locations, with a grade of B or higher;
  • Completion of a 200-hour (two semester) practicum experience with poster presentation (Note: the practicum may or may not also serve as a Fieldwork project, depending on the requirements of the organization and the student’s concentration);
  • Attendance at meetings of Fellows and monthly reporting
  • Presentation of student’s practicum experience to the MCH student organization; and
  • Attendance at four or more RU-MaCH student organization meetings or events.

Fellows are awarded a $2,000 stipend. $1,000 is awarded to the student at the beginning of the practicum, and the additional $1,000 is awarded upon completion of all requirements.  Fellowships begin in the September of the Academic Year and all requirements must be completed by the following May.
