All Certificate, Masters’ and Doctoral students who earn degrees in the summer term (October 1st) are eligible to participate in convocation and commencement exercises the following May. All academic requirements must be completed before a student participates in convocation and commencement.

There is a fee for graduation whether or not a student participates in commencement. As of academic year 2013-2014, the graduation fee is $40.

Commencement is a University-wide event. All graduates are expected to attend unless excused for a legitimate reason.
In addition to Commencement, graduates are invited to attend the School of Public Health Convocation. Student, faculty, staff and community partner awards are also presented at this event.

  • COMMENCEMENT: Rutgers University Commencement will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at 12:30 p.m. in High Point Solutions Stadium (Piscataway) on the New Brunswick Campus. (Rutgers School of Public Health graduates -- all campuses -- will participate in this ceremony.)
  • CONVOCATION: The Rutgers School of Public Health's Convocation will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 4:30 p.m., Nicholas Music Center, 85 George Street, Douglass Campus, New Brunswick, NJ. DrPH and PhD graduates are hooded at Convocation.
Use the Rutgers University Maps website to obtain directions to the Nicholas Music Center > >

Class of 2015 graduates will receive printed commemorative invitations. While there is no limit on the number of guests you may invite to Rutgers University Commencement, the School's Convocation has a limit of five (5) guests per graduate. Extra tickets will be available for purchase through your Campus Office.

Academic Regalia

All Class of 2015 graduates who are on track to obtain their degree and who plan to participate in University Commencement and our School Convocation on May 17 MUST order and purchase their regalia from Jostens. All graduating students are required to wear academic regalia during the University Commencement ceremony. Those in the Armed Forces must also wear academic regalia. Military uniforms may be worn underneath academic gowns. DEADLINE HAS PASSED.

With more than 40,000 people expected on our Busch, College Avenue, Cook/Douglass, and Livingston campuses to attend Rutgers University Commencement and School Convocations on Sunday, May 17, 2015, parking will be limited. Therefore, Commencement parking hangtags will be required for access to the parking zones established for the day. Graduating students will be given priority for parking. However, you are required to register online to obtain up to two free parking hangtags for yourself and your guests. (Getting your parking hangtags is essential as your regular Rutgers parking hangtag does NOT work on Commencement day.)

YOU ONLY NEED PARKING HANGTAGS IF YOU PLAN TO GO TO COMMENCEMENT.  If you plan to participate in our School’s Convocation only, you do not need to registrar for hangtags.

Online parking registration for Commencement is now open. Registration for the free hangtags closes at the close of business on Friday, April 24, any remaining hangtags will be available for purchase by students and/or guests for $5 each on the parking website.

More details about parking, getting around, and registration are available in the Parking & Getting Around section of the University Commencement website:
