Course Evaluation

Information for Students

The course evaluation process is central to SPH efforts to ensure that instruction at the school continues its history of excellence. School instructors and administrators take the information and feedback received from students very seriously.

It is the expectation that all students complete all required course evaluation surveys while enrolled at SPH.

The online course evaluation system provides security and confidentiality that far exceeds that which is possible with the paper and pencil method. Students can participate in the surveys with complete assurance that their responses will remain confidential. Only courses with three or more students enrolled are included in this process.

When the course evaluation survey is launched for a semester, students will be contacted through e-mail from the CoursEval System. That system will include a list of surveys that are available for completion, and will also include student log-on information. Students can change their passwords whenever the survey is active.Depending on response rate, surveys typically remain open for 2-4 weeks.

After the survey is closed, faculty will be notified that the results are available for viewing.

Information for Faculty

The online course evaluation system provides security and confidentiality that far exceeds that which is possible with the paper and pencil method. When the course evaluation survey is launched, students will be contacted through e-mail from the CoursEval System. That system will include a list of surveys that are available for completion and student log-on information. Students can change their passwords whenever the survey is active.

It is imperative that faculty encourage their students to log in and participate in the course evaluation surveys, that they reassure students of the anonymity of their input, and that they assure students that that constructive input is read and addressed.

After the survey is closed, faculty will be notified that the results are available for viewing. That message will be generated directly out of the CoursEval system, and will include log-in instructions. Depending on response rate, surveys typically remain open for 2-4 weeks.

Course evaluation reports are not sent to faculty. The benefit of the on-line system is that it provides faculty the ability to view their own outcomes whenever they choose. Once a survey is closed, the results remain available indefinitely.

Faculty and administrators are encouraged to take advantage of the many features this system provides, including the opportunity for faculty to add specialized questions or develop new or creative assessment instruments.
