Letter from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Health Education & Behavioral Sciences! On behalf of the faculty and staff, I want to communicate our commitment to providing our students with an outstanding education and experience that will serve as a critical foundation upon which to build a public health career.

Our faculty and staff are engaged in research focused on the four leading health risk behaviors: tobacco, alcohol, inactivity and nutrition.  In addition, we have a strong working relationship with faculty in the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey who also hold appointments in our department.  Efforts there include a focus on health behaviors among cancer survivors, sun protective behaviors among diverse populations, and the risks of indoor tanning among young people.  Our department is engaged in a wide array of public health research areas and our faculty are active across the entire public health policy continuum from the local to the national level.  Didactic learning is enhanced by the rich research and policy experiences of our faculty as we address many of the core areas of public health, such as behavior modification, health education, risk communication and policy.
