ABOUT THE BACHELOR'S DEGREE / MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH (BA/MPH OR BS/MPH) ARTCULATED DEGREE
In partnership with Rutgers University–New Brunswick, the Rutgers School of Public Health offers highly-qualified undergraduate students the opportunity to begin graduate study during their undergraduate years, thereby accelerating the Master of Public Health degree by requiring approximately 3-5 additional semesters beyond the Bachelors degree. This is not a concurrent degree program. Students earn their Bachelors degree first and then the MPH.
The Bachelors/Masters Program is open to all undergraduate majors attending Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Interested undergraduates must have completed at least 60 but no more than 90 undergraduate credits (at least 20 of which should count towards their major requirements) and demonstrated both a mature attitude and superior academic achievement. They must be recommended to the program by their major adviser or college dean.
Application to the BA/MPH or BS/MPH degree program is open to all undergraduate majors attending Rutgers–New Brunswick. Faculty or college dean letters of recommendation should include a brief description of the student’s interests, track record, and statement of maturity. The faculty recommendation should be sent to Christina Torian the Rutgers Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy (see contact information below). Ms. Torian will then invite the student for an appointment to discuss the application process.
Students applying to the articulated program should request an application from the Rutgers School of Public Health (see contact information below). Students must submit official transcripts of all prior work, an essay stating their career goals in public health, and letters of recommendation, including one from a Rutgers undergraduate adviser to the School of Public Health. The GRE requirement is waived. Application for this degree program is available through School of Public Health's Office of Student Affairs.
The MPH degree program requires 45 credit hours, comprising 15 credits of core courses, 9-18 credits of required department courses, 6-15 credits of electives and 6 credits of Fieldwork. The Bachelors/Masters Program allows accepted BA/MPH or BS/MPH students to take up to 15 graduate credits of MPH core course at the Rutgers School of Public Health. These graduate credits apply to both the undergraduate degree and the MPH degree, giving students advanced standing in the School of Public Health once students matriculate at the School of Public Health. Please note that the graduate credits earned as an undergraduate through the BA/MPH or BS/MPH degree program at the Rutgers School of Public Health cannot be transferred to other graduate programs. Once accepted, questions regarding the registration process may be addressed to Ms. Christina Torian at the Bloustein School. Visit the MPH degree webpage or each department's webpage for more information about the MPH curriculum.
